Leagues

All trophies
Our first Association Croquet league started in 1986 and the Golf Croquet one in 1988, with the Roll of Honour page showing all the winners and when each league was introduced. Our History page links to detailed results for more than the last 20 years.

We now have 5 leagues in operation – three Association Croquet and two Golf Croquet.  These leagues aim to provide a friendly, but competitive environment between our clubs in which to play croquet. These involve a mixture of level and handicap play, so that a range of club members can be involved. The leagues are:

Association Croquet Golf Croquet
U – Handicap Play GR – Level Play, but minimum handicap range/total
B – Handicap Play, but with minimum handicap total GH – Handicap (East and West leagues), played as Advantage Handicap
S – Handicap Play, One Lawn

Each of these leagues involves playing four matches (normally two home and two away) during the season.

Our policy for the handling of the League and Tournament trophies can be seen here.  If you win a trophy please ensure that it’s returned as described.

The Federation leagues are organised and controlled by our . Any problems with the arrangements or any disputes should be referred to him/her.

Detailed League Rules can be found and instructions for reporting results .

Clubs with single lawns

Last season clubs with single lawns were encouraged to play their home matches at home and a number of different adaptations were trialled. These are shown in the at the very bottom.

These adaptations have been adopted for this season and so every club will have two home and two away matches irrespective of the number of lawns. The team captains should negotiate how they intend to play their match. The rules allow the captains to make any change to the standard format for the league and these changes do not have to be pre-agreed by the Leagues Organiser, merely between the two team captains involved.

Catering for matches

Following a decision at the 2022 AGM, as a matter of policy the Federation is not expecting clubs to provide lunch (or full teas) for visiting teams at league matches because that is what the majority of clubs prefer. Clubs are absolutely free to provide a meal, but visitors should not expect it. Hospitality is an important part of inter-club matches and so this only applies to ‘full meals’; simple refreshments on arrival, or tea and cake after a match are appropriate means of expressing hospitality and that has not changed.
From a practical point of view, home teams should make clear when fixing a match if they are offering a meal.

Obsolete leagues
Following a decision at the 2023 AGM, the AC A league and the GC Level leagues were dropped.
